Lunch & Learn ~ Cranberry Industry 101

October 15, 2024 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM (EDT)

Description

Massachusetts Cranberries will be providing information on what to expect when living near a cranberry bog. If you are selling property in and around cranberry bogs, this session will equip you to answer basic questions as to the different normal agricultural practices that occur on a cranberry farm throughout the year. As Southeastern Massachusetts is home to 13,000 acres of cranberry bogs (No. 2 in the nation!), this knowledge will help you better serve your clients who may be unfamiliar with the realities of living in rural and/or Right-to-Farm communities. Topics covered include: heavy equipment, water, sand, chemicals, helicopters and bees.

Presenter: Karen Cahill, Deputy Executive Director of the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association (aka Massachusetts Cranberries), joined the association in the spring of 2024 but has 9 years experience in the cranberry industry. She has traveled the world educating audiences on the history of the U.S. cranberry industry and the benefits of cranberry consumption.  At CCCGA she represents 300 cranberry farmers who farm 13,000 acres of bog in southeastern Massachusetts.  Karen is tasked with communicating the cultural, historical, and economic importance of farming the state's No.1 food crop.
